The Kenya Soccer Federation (FKF) has officially appointed former Head coach of Harambee Stars Francis Kimanzi as the new Director of Football Development.
The announcement was made by FKF on March 13, which stated:
“The Kenya Football (FKF) federation is proud to announce the appointment of Francis Kimanzi as the new Football Development Director. Mr Kimanzi, a very experienced coach with a broad background in Kenya football, stepped into this role when the federation seeks to strengthen its structure, maintain local talents, and foster sustainable growth in sports. “Read the part of the statement.
Responding to the appointment of Kimanzi, FKF Secretary General Harold Ndege expressed his belief that his broad experience would bring positive change to Kenya football.
“We are sure that Mr Kimanzi’s leadership and expertise will play an important role in advancing our development agenda and forming the future of Kenya football,” said FKF Secretary General Harold Ndege.
“The federation expanded his full support to Mr. Kimanzi when he took this vital responsibility.”

The main role of Kimanzi will involve supporters of the national team, and help the football and youth root programs, among other tasks aimed at encouraging collaboration and strategic planning in Kenya football.

Francis Kimanzi’s achievements
Before his appointment, Kimanzi had served as the temporary head coach of the men’s national team before Benni McCarthy took over earlier this month.
During the temporary period, Kimanzi led the national team to the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar earlier this year, where Kenya was eliminated by host Zanzibar at the Gombani Stadium on Pemba Island.
The 48 -year -old player has a rich history with Kenya football, after serving as the head coach of the national team on four occasions.
He first took a role in 2008-2009, dismissed, then re-raised in 2011-2012, and then took over again in 2019-2020.
Kimanzi’s extensive football knowledge extends to the management of local clubs, including Mathare United, Tusker FC, Sofapaka, and Wazito (previously Muhoroni Youth).

Recently, Kimanzi was seen with the head coach who was newly appointed by Benni McCarthy in the Ulinzi Sports Complex during his first training session, assisting in the selection of players for the upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon at the end of this month.
